Third arrest made in child abuse case

A third arrest has been made in connection with alleged abuse of two small children in Hopkinsville.

An arrest warrant for 22-year-old Courtney Harper of Hopkinsville alleges she struck two children—five and six-years old—with a wooden spoon as a means of discipline. She allegedly committed the crimes in conjunction with 27-year-old Donnie Freeman and 25-year-old Jessica Maddux, as the three adults reportedly had an arrangement to discipline the children by hitting them with spoons.

The warrant says photos were taken of very severe bruising on both of the children’s buttocks and legs.

All three suspects are charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12.
