College Sports

ESPN reports the Universities of Oklahoma and Texas have formally notified the Southeastern Conference according to a joint statement they are seeking “an invitation for membership” beginning July 1, 2025. In a statement, Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey said the SEC’s presidents and chancellors would consider the requests, noting that at least three-fourths of the SEC’s 14 member schools are required to extend an invitation. Sources say SEC president and chancellors are expected to meet Thursday to consider the schools for membership.

College Baseball

Mississippi State coach Chris Lemonis has received a long term contract extension. The National Coach of the Year who led the Bulldogs to this year’s national championship, will receive $1.25 million in 2022 with a $25,000 increase each year after that. Former University Heights standout Drew McGowan is a member of the Bulldogs.

NFL

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers arrived a training camp today. Rodgers-who had said he would not play for the Packers this season-agreed to mutually agreed terms with the team to play at least one more season.

The home of the New Orleans Saints has a new name. Caesars Entertainment announced Monday a 20 year exclusive naming rights deal that rebrands the stadium as the Caesars Superdome.
