Trial date set in case against former HHS band director

A trial date was set Tuesday afternoon in the case against former Hopkinsville High School band director Seth Peveler, who is facing multiple charges of rape.

Peveler appeared virtually before special Judge James Jameson, along with defense attorney Sands Chewning and co-defendant Hannah Peveler, who is charged with three counts of a tampering with a witness in relation to the case.  Special prosecutor Commonwealth’s Attorney Dennis Faust informed the court that while they are setting a trial date, discussions are still underway about a possible resolution.

Seth Peveler’s trial is currently set for January 5—no trial date was immediately set for Hannah Peveler with Faust saying they intend to try to two separately.

A final pretrial conference was set for December 7 in both cases, with Judge Jameson saying the deadline for resolving the case will be the Friday before trial begins.

Seth Peveler is accused of having multiple sexual encounters with students at his home and at the school in 2017 and 2018. He is charged with four counts of third-degree rape, four counts of third-degree sodomy and one count of unlawful transaction with a minor. The indictments note he was in a position of authority or special trust over his alleged victims.

Hannah Peveler is accused of attempting to convince a witness to avoid testifying in an official court proceeding with intent to influence the outcome in the potential case.
