Senator McConnell remains opposed to withdrawal from Afghanistan

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky remains opposed to President Joe Biden’s plan to bring troops home from Afghanistan, saying it will make Americans less safe at home.

Speaking on the Senate Floor Tuesday, Leader McConnell called the withdrawal and its implications a “global embarrassment.”

McConnell believes it’s a certainty that terrorists in Afghanistan will again become a threat to the American homeland with U.S. troops gone.

While acknowledging there are also Republicans who support the president bringing the troops home, Senator McConnell is remaining steadfast against the move.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky is among the members of McConnell’s own party who are for the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
