Updated: Man injured in car versus train accident

Hopkinsville police have released details on the car versus train accident Monday afternoon at the East Seventh Street crossing.

The report from Officer Alonzo Sanders says 28-year old Thomas Kaneer of Hopkinsville was westbound and didn’t attempt to stop until it was too late to avoid striking a northbound train.

Police say skid marks on the pavement indicate Kaneer had been traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.

The flashing red lights and bell were operational at the time of the crash, but Kaneer told police he didn’t remember seeing or hearing the warning or the actual train.

Kaneer was taken by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for multiple injuries, including hip pain.

He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
