City Council approves street closure, acceptances

Hopkinsville City Council heard an update from Atmos Energy at Tuesday’s meeting and approved the closure of a portion of East 11th Street.

Atmos Energy has been performing maintenance on several streets within the City of Hopkinsville recently, and Ryan Tobert says they intend to wrap up work on East 17th Street soon and from there will continue their South Main Street work.  He says that has caused some traffic flow issues while the work is ongoing, but they’re hopeful to have work completed by September of October.

Community Development Services Director Steve Bourne presented the recommendation from CDS to close a portion of East 11th Street between South Main Street and South Virginia Street, saying it would essentially become a private, two-way driveway for the businesses located there.

A vehicle count during a week’s time showed roughly 140 vehicles traveled that stretch of roadway.  The closure was approved unanimously by council on first-reading.

In other action, council approved accepting new roadways on the Jennie Stuart Blue Creek South medical offices campus—Blue Creek Lane, Jennie Stuart Way and Millburn Keith Lane. Hopkinsville City Council requires a one year warranty and retainage of $153,853 surety to begin following the acceptance.
