Princeton’s Emma Talley had an opening round six under 65 and trails leader Jin Young Ko by two strokes heading into today’s second round of the LPGA Tour’s Volunteers of America Classic outside of Dallas. Talley tees off at 2:10 this afternoon.

Davis Thompson came out hot on the first day of the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. In just his third PGA Tour event, Thompson shot a bogey-free nine-under 63 to jump to the top of the leaderboard at Detroit Golf Club. Brandon Hagy is among a group two-strokes back at seven-under. Campbellsville native JB Holmes is at three under par while Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker is at two under. Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau is nine strokes back at even par.

Bryson DeChambeau and his caddie are taking a break from one another. The golfer told ESPN that he and Tim Tucker were not quitting outright, but that the two were taking time apart. Ben Schomin will caddie for the remainder of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Franklin’s Kenny Perry and Paducah native Russ Cochran are in the field for the PGA Tour Champions Dick’s Sporting Goods open that begins today in Endicott, NY.
