Trash service employee killed in Lyon County crash

An employee of WCA/GFL Waste Services, which provides garbage collection services in Christian, Trigg, Caldwell and Lyon counties, died in an accident Thursday in Lyon County.

It happened on US 642 about a mile and a half north of Eddyville and involved a garbage truck and a semi, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

A Kentucky State Police news release identifies the victim as 42-year old William Hardrick of Princeton and states that a tractor-trailer driven by 39-year old Travis Rodden of Arkansas had gone off the east side of the roadway.  He was reportedly attempting to reenter the road but overcorrected, going back off the lanes of travel and striking a tree, leaving the trailer across the roadway.  Hardrick, who was operating the garbage truck south bound, collided with the trailer—he was declared deceased at the scene.

The company issued a statement saying, “It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform the community that WCA/GFL Waste suffered a terrible loss yesterday in a vehicle accident.”

They say their Pinceton facility was closed Thursday to mourn the loss of the team member.

As a result, some may experience a delay in services potentially through Friday.  They say leave trash at the curb as they will service you as soon as they are able.
