Senior centers will again welcome crowds and serve lunch in all nine Pennyrile counties Thursday and many will be happy to be able to congregate again.
There will be a grand re-opening 8 a.m. Thursday at the Christian County Senior Center on West Seventh Street in Hopkinsville, which has actually been closed since January of last year due to damage from a severe thunderstorm, followed by the pandemic.
Elkton Mayor Arthur Green serves on the Pennyrile Agency on Aging Board and says there will be brief celebration and ribbon cutting 10 a.m. Thursday at the Todd County Senior Center on South Main Street in Elkton.
While many seniors in the Pennyrile region rely on a hot lunch from the centers, Mayor Green says getting together and talking to others often does those patrons just as much good.
Trigg County Senior Center Director Cissy Lawrence says they’ll open at 8, the Trigg County Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon-cutting at 10:30 and there will be giveaways throughout the day.
The centers have continued with meal deliveries and pickups throughout the pandemic, providing a meal to every senior in the nine-county region who needed one.
