After years of trying and planning, ground was broken Monday morning in Elkton for the new Todd County Extension Office on Pond River Road.
District Board Chairman Barry Rager noted that it may be closer to decades that they’ve been trying to get the project going and says real work at the site at the corner with US 68 could begin in about two and a half weeks.
Once completed, the site will feature an office, a pavilion and an outdoor arena.
County Extension Agent Lee Ann McCuiston says it’ll be a significant step up from their current offices in the courthouse.
The larger and modern facilities will allow the extension office to better serve the public in many ways.
The outdoor arena will host the local 4H Horse Club immediately and McCuiston is hopeful to see livestock shows similar to the ones in Christian and Logan County in the future.
The dirt work at the site will be completed by the fall and it’s hoped the entire project will be finished by the end of 2022.
