The St. Louis Cardinals fell 8-2 to the Tigers in Detroit. The Cardinals have dropped four-of-five. The series concludes this afternoon.

Kyle Hendricks posted his 10th win of the season after firing six scoreless innings in the Chicago Cubs 7-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Wrigley Field. The Cubs head out West to open a four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers tomorrow night.

National League

Charlie Morton struck out 11 batters as the Atlanta Braves blanked the New York Mets 3-0. Morton allowed only one hit over seven scoreless frames for Atlanta. He earned his seventh win of the year and 100th of his major league career. The Braves have won three of their last four and wrap up the four-game series tonight.

Philadelphia manager Joe Girardi asked for umpires to check Washington starting pitcher Max Scherzer for foreign substances in the fourth inning of the Phillies 3-2 loss to the Washington Nationals game last night and was later ejected. Nothing was found by the officials, despite the overt display put on by the Nationals’ right-hander.
Shortly after, Scherzer struck out JT Realmuto to end the fifth inning and then stared down Girardi as he was walking off the mound. Girardi then walked out of the dugout and Scherzer held up his glove and hat to taunt him. Girardi got ejected right after he left the dugout.

The Boston Red Sox spoiled the debut of baseball’s top prospect on Tuesday, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 9-5 in 11 innings in St. Petersburg, Florida. Wander Franco homered for his first Major League hit and according to ESPN Stats and Info, he became the youngest third baseman to homer in his Major League debut, doing so at 20 years, 113 days old.
