L&R Soda Fountain in Elkton set to reopen in July

A community favorite restaurant in Elkton is set to reopen in July with a new general manager, following an extended closure due to renovations and the pandemic.

According to a news release, the L&R Soda Fountain on the public square in Elkton is set to fully reopen in the latter half of July, but will be participating in the Fourth of July celebrations by handing out ice cream on July 3 before the fireworks show. The L&R Soda Fountain was originally opened in Elkton in June of 2011 by Kenny and Heather Clayton in conjunction with the pharmacy business that they owned and operated at the time.

It was closed temporarily in early 2020 to make some needed improvements, but then the pandemic restrictions greatly extended that closure. The reopening is made possible through a partnership with the Claytons and the Todd County Foundation, Inc. All profits generated by the L&R Soda Fountain will be retained by the Foundation for reinvestment into the Todd County community through projects to improve and support the quality of life.

The business will be led by general manager Felix Diaz, who has experience from many years in food service and restaurant management.

Officials with the Foundation say they are excited and honored to bring this business back to life in the Todd County community, with the hope it will continue to be a successful staple of the area for many years to come.
