Boys and Girls Club celebrates renovations, end of pandemic restrictions

The Boys and Girls Club is slowly getting back to normal as pandemic restrictions recede, and the Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville got a tour of its new spaces Thursday.

Executive Director Terrence Davis says the club and the youth who depend on it were impacted hard by the pandemic, with the club closing in March of 2020—he says they changed tracks and began serving the community in new ways.

The main thing they focused on was getting food to kids and families in need—he says they served upwards of 50,000 meals during that time.

Now they’re starting to get kids back, serving up to 100 daily, and Davis is hopeful even more will return when school starts back.  When they do, they’ll have new spaces to enjoy, including a ‘zen’ den, a fully furnished STEAM lab and a now completed new cafeteria and kitchen.

The club’s Great Futures luncheon will return in-person on July 21, where attendees can learn more about the club from its members, and the impact it has on children in the community.
