Hopkinsville man arrested on robbery charge after fleeing with stolen candy

Hopkinsville police arrested a man on a robbery charge Monday afternoon after he allegedly fled from officers at the East Ninth Street Dollar General with stolen candy.

An arrest citation for 61-year old Gilbert Grubbs of Hopkinsville says he returned to the East Ninth Street Dollar General after allegedly shoplifting Reeces candies and an officer found him when he responded to the store.

Grubbs allegedly shoved the officer and fled on foot, with the Reeces peanut butter cups falling out of his pockets as he ran across the street.

He was eventually caught at the intersection of Sharpe and Jones Street and taken into custody.

Grubbs was charged with second-degree robbery, resisting arrest and fleeing or evading police.
