Hopkinsville City Council to hear second reading of budget Tuesday night

Hopkinsville City Council will vote on second reading of a $41.1 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year when they meet Tuesday night.

Mayor Wendell Lynch appeared Friday morning on WHOP and says the city is set to end the year with a surplus as the pandemic impacts weren’t as severe as anticipated.

The mayor says the city will be able to meet all of its obligations without passing a tax increase.

The city will have to spend an additional $600,000 in pension costs in the upcoming budget and city employees would receive a two-percent cost-of-living raise if the plan passes second reading.
