Ky. Supreme Court hears two cases over Gov. Beshear’s emergency powers

The Kentucky Supreme court heard two cases Thursday morning in the battles over Governor Andy Beshear’s emergency powers.

Beshear is expected to lift remaining COVID-19 orders on Friday, but attorneys for both sides agree it’s not a moot point. They say long-term constitutional issues are at stake, like specifically how much power a governor has in Kentucky, and to what degree lawmakers can limit that power. General Counsel Amy Cubbage argued that it’s time to move the state forward and the rulings made recently were an abuse of discretion.

One case involves Louisville brewery Goodwood, and another involves Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
