Negotiations continue in Trigg fatal crash murder case

Conversations towards a possible resolution continue in the case of Christopher Swykert, who is charged with murder in relation to a single-vehicle crash that killed a passenger in his vehicle in June of 2020.

He appeared in Trigg Circuit Court Wednesday with defense attorney Bill Deatherage, who requested a continuance from Judge C.A. Woody Woodall, to allow more time for discussions to take place.

The Commonwealth had no objection, so Judge Woodall set a pretrial hearing for August 11.  He advised Swykert to keep abiding by his conditions of release in the meantime.

Swykert is charged with murder and aggravated DUI.  Swykert was allegedly operating a vehicle near the 1.5 mile marker of the Trace in LBL in June of Trigg County when he failed to negotiate a curve. The car went off the road, struck a tree and overturned onto its top.

A passenger, 19-year old Daniel Kincaid of Houston, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Trigg County Coroner’s Office.
