Two I-24 work zones removed for Memorial Day weekend traffic spike

Work zone lane restrictions at two sites along Interstate 24 in Kentucky are removed in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says an eastbound work zone for work on the Cypress Creek Bridge at the 27.5 mile marker in Marshall County was taken down Wednesday.  An eastbound work zone for paving from the 45 to 51 mile marker in Lyon County came down early Friday.

Phasing of the projects was designed to allow full traffic flow for the Memorial Day Holiday driving period.

An eastbound work zone will go back up next week at the U.S. 62 Calvert City Exit 27 overpass while paving from the 45 to 51 mile marker is complete.

A work zone at I-24 Paducah Exit 4 that includes a restriction for eastbound I-24 traffic will have to remain in place through the holiday.  That work zone includes a closure of the eastbound entry ramp from U.S. 60 at Exit 4.

AAA has indicated June is likely to be one of the busiest travel months in years as Covid-19 travel restrictions have been rolled back by most states.
