Five injured, two flown to hospital, after Parkway crash

A single-vehicle rollover accident Monday afternoon on the Pennyrile Parkway in northern Christian County injured five people.

Christian County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Goulet says a few minutes after 2 p.m. a northbound vehicle driven by 52-year old Sherrie McFarland of Madisonvile left the pavement near the 26 mile-marker and went into the median. It then crossed both northbound lanes again, crashed into a guard rail and rolled into a wooded area before striking a tree.

Fourteen-year old Hunter Lampton of Oak Grove was ejected and was trapped under the vehicle. McFarland and the boy’s three siblings—13-year old Hailey, 11-year old Hayden and seven-year old Jackson Lampton—were removed from the vehicle.

McFarland, who is the children’s grandmother, and Hunter were flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The other three children were taken by EMS to Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville.

Sgt. Goulet says a small dog that had been in the vehicle was located nearby with only a scratch.

At least three of the people in the vehicle had been wearing a seat belt and the seat belt status of the other two was unknown.
