Corey Conners jumped out to a two-shot lead after the first round of the P-G-A Championship at Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course Thursday. Conners posted six birdies and just one bogey to finish five-under 67, two strokes ahead of a group of six led by Brooks Koepka and Keegan Bradley at three-under. Phil Mickelson and defending champion Collin Morikawa lead a group at two-under. Louisville area native Justin Thomas is at three over 75 while the world’s number one golfer, Dustin Johnson, was four-over for the round.
While a hole-in-one in golf is considered quite a feat, one golfer’s shot at the PGA Championship could be a once in a lifetime occurrence. On Thursday, Sebastian Munoz teed off from the 18th hole at Kiawah Island where the ball sailed out of play. However, the ball ended up hitting a fence and landed straight into a garbage can. Spectators cheered even though the shot was not intentional. After retrieving the ball, Munoz tossed it to a lucky fan.
Princeton’s Emma Talley had an even par 71 in Thursday’s opening round of the LPGA Tour’s Pure Silk Invitational in Williamsburg, VA. Wei-Ling Hsu at five under 66 has a one shot lead over five golfers heading into today’s second round.
