Hopkinsville Fire and EMS is proud to receive the “Award of Excellence for Pediatric Emergency Care” from the Kentucky Emergency Medical Services for Children Program.
According to Public Information Officer Payton Rogers, the award was presented by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services for the 2nd consecutive year.
To be recognized, an agency designates a pediatric emergency care coordinator to provide adequate care for the unique needs of pediatric patients in need of emergency care, must comply with the national recommendations for pediatric equipment and participate in outreach to children in the community.
There are also requirements for additional pediatric-related education and demonstration of pediatric skill competency for all EMTs and paramedics.
The receipt of this award couldn’t come at a more appropriate time as Wednesday is “EMS for Children Day” and HFD is celebrating EMS Week.
