Sports Briefs 5/17/21

NBA

The Memphis Grizzles fall in San Fransisco to the Golden State Warriors 113-101. Ja Morant had 16 points and nine assists in the loss. Memphis finishes the regular season as the ninth seed in the West and will host the 10th seeded San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night in the NBA Play-In Tournament. The Grizzles must win to move on in the play-in tournament and face the loser of the seven-versus-eight matchup.

NHL

The Nashville Predators start their first round Stanley Cup Playoff series with the Hurricanes in Carolina tonight. Nashville finished the regular season with back to back victories over the Hurricanes and will look to keep that streak going. First puck drops at 7 this evening.

NFL

Juantarius Bryant went to Georgia last weekend for a tryout with the Atlanta Falcons only to find out he was the victim of a prank. The former Austin Peay defensive back had been receiving text messages from someone he thought was Falcons defensive coordinator Dean Pees.
However, when he arrived on Wednesday, he was turned away from the team’s facility in Flowery Branch. He took to Twitter to discuss the situation, describing it as “heart breaking,” but said everything happens for a reason

Golf
K.H. Lee posted a six-under 66 to pull down his first career PGA Tour win at the weather delayed AT&T Byron Nelson in McKinney, Texas on Sunday. It was his fourth round in the 60s, finishing 25-under and winning the tournament by three strokes ahead of Sam Burns at TPC at Craig Ranch. Burns finished a stroke up on a group of four including Charl Schwartzel. Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker tied for 17th at 16 under par.

Dicky Pride at 11 under was a three shot winner at the PGA Tour Champions Mitsubishi Electric Classic at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, GA. Franklin’s Kenny Perry tied for 15th at three under while Paducah’s Russ Cochran tied for 42nd at four over par.

NASCAR

Alex Bowman went home Sunday with his second win of the season, holding off Kyle Larson to pick up the NASCAR Cup Series win at Dover. Despite leading 263 laps, Larson finished second. Bowman was able to work his way to the front after starting 16th. Chase Elliott finished third while William Byron and Joey Logano rounded out the top five.
