St. Louis Cardinals pitchers walked eight batters in a 5-3 loss to the San Diego Padres, who swept the three-game series at Petco Park. St. Louis jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Nolan Arenado belted a two-run homer in the first. The Cardinals are off today before hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow night.

The Atlanta Braves’ rally fell just shy of sweeping the Brewers with a 10-9 loss in Milwaukee. The Brewers took an early 8-0 lead before the Brewers salavaged one game in the series. Atlanta returns home to open a seven-game home stand with the first of three-games against the New York Mets tonight.

Interleague

Kyle Hendricks took a shutout into the ninth as the Chicago Cubs beat the Tigers 5-1 in Detroit. Hendricks finished with one run allowed on eight hits while striking out eight over eight-plus innings. Ian Happ went 3-for-4 with a homer and a pair of RBI for Chicago, which won two of three in the series. The Cubs host the Washington Nationals tonight.
