Todd Fiscal Court approves first reading of budget

Todd Fiscal Court approved first reading of an $8 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year during Friday morning’s meeting.

Treasurer Tammy Robertson says the required county contribution for employee pensions went up by three-percent and there was a five-percent increased required contribution for the health insurance program.

The budget is $800,000 more than last year overall and Robertson says the county is also funding another deputy for the sheriff’s office.

New revenue will be generated from growth, including payroll taxes collected from the growing Novelis plant, and Robertson says they are not anticipating any new tax rate increases.

The budget was approved unanimously on first reading and now heads to the Department for local government for review and approval and second reading must be completed by the end of next month.
