One hurt, two arrested in Maplelawn St. shooting

Two Hopkinsville men are facing charges of wanton endangerment following a shots fired incident on Maplelawn Street Thursday evening.

According to the Hopkinsville police report, officers responded to the 100 block of Maplelawn around 10 p.m. Thursday for reports of shots fired.  Investigation reportedly revealed that two neighbors, 36-year old Timothy Freels and 46-year old Jamie Calhoun, had gotten into a dispute that escalated.

The two allegedly exchanged gunfire and Calhoun was struck, and was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released. There were reportedly other individuals nearby when the incident occurred, and a residence that a woman was inside of was struck by the gunfire.

Both men were arrested, with Freels charged with first-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment—Calhoun was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment.
