East Ninth St. murder case now heads to the grand jury

A preliminary hearing was held in Christian District Court Friday morning for Dalton Hall, one of the men accused in the shooting death of Delmour Moncrief at the East Ninth Street Valero gas station in April.

Hopkinsville Police Detective Jonathan Sholar testified that he was unaware of any relationship between Hall, co-defendant David King and the victim in this case.  He says surveillance footage from the gas station shows Hall exit a vehicle in the parking lot and fire three shots from a handgun at Moncrief—he and King then get back into the vehicle and flee the scene.

He says the victim was not armed and was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for a gunshot wound, where he was later die of his injuries.

Judge Foster Cotthoff found there was enough probable cause to send the case the grand jury for consideration, and he left Hall’s bond at $500,000.

Hall is facing charges of murder, tampering with evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon—he was apprehended in Alabama and extradited to the Christian County Jail. King, who could be facing similar charges, is not yet in custody.
