Hopkinsville remembers the fallen, honors law enforcement during memorial service

The City of Hopkinsville and the local Fraternal Order of Police honored, and remember those officers who have fallen in the line of duty—true heroes to the community.

After missing an in-person memorial last year, officers, community leaders and citizens came together Friday morning in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community.  Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch says many owe their lives and their safety to local law enforcement, and he thanked them for their dedication.

FOP President Henry Gould says law enforcement officers are more than just a force—they are community members, mothers and fathers, volunteers and friends.

Gould says this community never wavered in their support of their local law enforcement, and for that, they are sincerely grateful and look forward to continuing to serve.

The name of the 10 officers killed in the line of duty in Christian County—the first being Officer R. H. West in 1893 and the most recent being Officer Phillip Meacham in 2018—were read during the ceremony.  There was a moment of silence, as those in attendance and those watching, remembered the fallen and appreciated those who continue to run towards danger.
