Plea agreement in the works for S. Main Street stabbing suspect

Proceedings were a continued with a possible plea deal in the works for John Chambers, the man accused of stabbing Maurice Catlett in January.

A plea agreement seems to have been reached between Chambers and the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, but public defender requested a small continuance to give him time to deliver that paperwork to Chambers at the Christian County Jail and have him sign it.

At the moment, Chambers is facing a charge of first-degree assault—in January, a verbal dispute between Chambers and Catlett became physical near the Manhattan Motel on South Main Street.  Chambers is alleged to have stabbed Catlett multiple times, causing injuries to his arm that sent him to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.

Chambers remains lodged in the Christian County Jail.
