Bond request under consideration in Trigg Circuit Court for manslaughter suspect

A request for bond modification for the woman charged with manslaughter in relation to a fatal house fire that resulted in the death of her two children is under consideration in Trigg Circuit Court.

Keyona Bingham appeared virtually before Circuit Judge C.A. Woody Woodall Wednesday afternoon, with public defender Mary Rhorer requesting the judge set a bond for Bingham, and allow her to be out on that bond while they prepare for trial.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins objected, saying that Bingham’s bond was revoked due to some serious issues while she was out of custody, including failure to appear.

Judge Woodall deferred ruling on the motion today, saying he would make a decision within a week’s time.

In the meantime, Bingham remains lodged in the Christian County Jail with no bond set. As previously reported, firefighters were called to a modular home at 194 Jefferson Street April 7, 2020 and located Bingham’s children, three-year old Kamari Harris and seven-month old Ky’nylee Harris during a search of the residence.

Both children were pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy determined they died as a result of smoke and other products of combustion inhalation.

Kentucky State Police allege Bingham had allegedly left her children at home unattended during the timeframe the fire began.
