Shooting victim who didn’t appear for suspect’s trial arrested on unrelated warrants

The alleged victim who didn’t appear in court and delayed the first trial in Christian Circuit Court since the pandemic began last week is in jail on unrelated warrants.

Hopkinsville police on Monday served 39-year old Derrell Bateman of Hopkinsville with warrants for contempt of court relating to child support arrears and for failure to appear in court to face misdemeanor theft charges.

Bateman was shot at East Second and Vine Street in February of last year and Travis Mayes is charged with first-degree assault in connection with the incident. His trial, which had been scheduled for May 3, was postponed until September 20 when Bateman didn’t appear in court.
