Rory McIlroy is finally back lifting a trophy on the PGA Tour. After an 18-month drought, McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship Sunday, finishing ten-under, just ahead of Abraham Ancer at Quail Hollow in Charlotte. Ancer shot a five-under 66 in the final round to creep within a stroke of McIlroy. Viktor Hovland finished at eight-under with Keith Mitchell, while Gary Woodland finished in fifth at seven-under. Louisville area native Justin Thomas tied for 26th at even par.
Alex Ceijka defeated Steve Stricker in a playoff Sunday at the PGA Tour Champions Regions Tradition in Birmingham. Both finished regulation at 18 under par. Ceija ended a six year winless drought in winning the major in just his third PGA Tour Champions start. Franklin’s Kenny Perry tied for 56th at eight over par while Paducah’s Russ Cochran was 65th at 12 over.
