Friends of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library raises $8k to benefit the library

The Friends of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is celebrating raising $8,000 to benefit the library, despite struggles with fundraising caused by the pandemic.

According to a news release, their last in-person meeting was held in February of 2020 and because of COVID, it could not hold meetings, host programs, or sponsor events. Instead, the group focused on increasing membership and fund-raising. The Friends group increased their membership to nearly 100 participants and raised $8,010 that will be donated to the library to go towards various events, services, and improvements that the library needs.

Chairperson Margaret McDonald says, “Executive Director, DeeAnna Sova, and her outstanding staff have worked hard to make that happen. The Friends organization is holding its first board meeting since the COVID outbreak on April 27, when it will vote on several proposed ways to assist the library in continuing its excellent service to our community.”
