Ground broken for housing development on West Edmunds Street

The Hopkinsville Inner-City Community Housing Development Organization and community partners broke ground on a new housing development on West Edmunds Street Tuesday morning.

The new duplexes will be two stories and 1,200 square feet—unit 429 will be two bedrooms and two baths, and unit 431 will be three bedrooms and two baths, with construction set to be completed in the fall.  Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch says the goal to help provide decent, safe, sanitary, and affordable housing to low-and-moderate income persons, which is of vital importance to the city and they hope to see even more developments soon.

Brandon Garnett is the president of the Hopkinsville and Christian County Landbank Authority and says they were happy to partner with the project to help improve the quality of life locally.

Peg Hayes with the Local Development Corporation says their goal, through actions and developments such as this one, is to promote revitalization of neighborhoods and help eliminate slums.

The city has had several other housing developments through the years.  The Hopkinsville Inner-City Community Housing Development Organization is a fairly new non-profit organization and is partnering with Planters Bank to provide local financing for the project, which will be constructed by Done Right Modeling, LLC.
