A pursuit of a vehicle that began Thursday night in Hopkins County ended near Crofton with an arrest.
A state trooper stopped a vehicle on Interstate 69 in Hopkins County and a news release says the driver complied with orders to get out and provided his identification.
The passenger did not have an ID and moved into the driver’s seat and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. He got onto the Pennyrile Parkway and then took US 62 before getting on US 41 and heading into Christian County.
Spike strips were used to deflate the vehicle’s tires and the stop came to an end when vehicle went off the roadway in Crofton. The driver was caught after a brief foot pursuit and after refusing to give his name, mobile fingerprint scanning identified him as 33-year old Steve Spurlin of Mortons Gap.
Spurlin was arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police, felony auto theft, DUI and several other offenses.
