County inmates in the Todd County Jail will soon be required to pay a fee for each day they are incarcerated after a policy change approved Friday morning by Todd Fiscal Court.
Kentucky law allows jails to have a policy that charges a per-day fee and Jailer Jeff Penick recently approached fiscal court about pursuing those funds. He conferred with Todd County Attorney Jeff Traughber and he presented the fee schedule—including $30 per day for those county inmates.
Penick says any money county inmates have in their commissary accounts can be confiscated to pay the fees and a collection agency can also be contracted if the money isn’t paid while the inmate is incarcerated.
In other action, magistrates gave final approval to reducing the speed limit on Moe Lane—where there is a day care and headquarters to the Todd County Rescue Squad—to 25 mph.
