OVC announces post-season football award winners today

The Ohio Valley Conference released its football awards for the season today. Austin Peay quarterback Draylen Ellis has been named Co-Freshman of the Year and named to the All Newcomer Team.

Also, Governors wide receiver DeAngelo Wilson was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Wilson was also a First Team All OVC selection along with receiver LaMartez Brooks of Murray State, center Levi Nesler of Murray State and offensive tackles Bucky Williams of Austin Peay and Jacob Vance of Murray State.

Both Murray State and Austin Peay were represented on the First Team All OVC defense. The Racers were represented by inside linebacker Eric Samula, outside linebacker Scotty Humpich and cornerback Marcus Floyd. Austin Peay placed inside linebacker Jack McDonald and nickelback Kordell Jackson on the first team.

First year Murray State coach Dean Hood was named Coach of the Year after leading the Racers to a 5-2 record. It’s the second time he’s won the award, also doing in at Eastern Kentucky in 2008.
