CCHS, HHS to hold in-person graduations May 21 at Stadium

Barring any inclement weather, both Christian County and Hopkinsville High School will hold in-person graduations Friday, May 21 at the Stadium of Champions.

Christian County School System Superintendent Chris Bentzel updated the school board Thursday night on the district’s plan, saying Christian County will go first at 5:30 and then Hopkinsville at 8.

If it rains, the ceremonies will be moved to that Saturday evening, May 22, instead of going to the gymnasiums as the district has done in the past.

Bentzel says graduates will wear masks, line up six feet apart and there will be no shaking hands.

Families will be given a yet-to-be-determined number of tickets which Bentzel says is likely to be between four and eight. He doesn’t know the exact number now, because state guidance regarding capacity could change between now and then.

Currently, the school system would be allowed to fill the stadium at 50 percent capacity.

Bentzel hopes to have the ticket number pinned down by May 1.

There won’t be a traditional Project Graduation this year, but the district and community will work together to provide each senior with 2021 memorabilia and a special gift.

Anyone wanting to help with the adopt a senior campaign should contact the school system.
