The iconic Square Deal Market at the intersection of Julien and Newstead Roads is a total loss after Thursday night’s fire and the future of the Christian County landmark remains uncertain.
Owner Tammy Grant, members of the Square Deal Volunteer Fire Department and others were on scene Friday morning assessing the damage and a Max Arnold and Sons truck was emptying the underground gasoline tank.
The future remains uncertain regarding a possible rebuilding of the establishment that has been in the nook of the busy v-intersection for at least 80 years.
No one was inside the building when it caught fire and the cause of the blaze is unknown.
It’s at least the third time the Square Deal market or grocery has been destroyed by fire in its history.
No one was injured in the blaze.
