HPD arrests man for felony theft

Hopkinsville police arrested a man Sunday who allegedly stole items out of a vehicle on Kenwood Drive.

A man on Kenwood saw the suspect riding a bicycle at the time of the theft just before 4 a.m. and saw the same man and bicycle in the area shortly after noon and called police again.

One of several items stolen from the vehicle was a military gas mask and carrying case and an arrest citation for 47-year old Robert Preston says the same type of material from the case was strapped onto the bicycle.

Preston denied stealing out of the victim’s vehicle, but the victim was able to identify him as the suspect he saw earlier in the morning.

HPD arrested Preston and charged him with felony theft.
