Hopkinsville gets grant for Pardue Lane park improvement, Todd Co. gets $250k for soccer complex

Hopkinsville is receiving grant funds to construct new facilities and equipment near the dog park and trailhead on Pardue Lane and Todd County is getting $250,000 for construction of a new soccer complex.

Governor Andy Beshear on Monday announced the selection of 41 projects totaling more than $4.3 million to receive funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. All selected projects will upgrade parks and recreation spaces across Kentucky.

One of those grants is to the City of Hopkinsville in the amount of $75,000 and Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says it will allow for construction of a pavilion and playground at the Pardue Lane site.

Brockman thanked Community Development Services and the Governor’s office for their help in making the grant application successful.

Todd County  Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield says they are partnering with the City of Elkton to obtain land on the old Elkton Die Cast property north of US 68 and the soccer complex will provide much-needed new fields that can be used by the schools or smaller children.

Mansfield, who also coaches soccer at Todd County Middle School, notes that all boys’ and girls’ soccer teams are currently sharing one field and many of the youth soccer games are played in the outfields of baseball fields in the City-County Park.

He says an anonymous donor has offered up at least $25,000 to assist with the project and they’re also hoping to get in-kind assistance with labor and construction.

Christian Fiscal Court received $25,000 to assist with construction of a covered pavilion at Jeffers Bend Environmental Center and Trigg County got $125,245 to assist in the reconstruction of a concession and restroom facility at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.
