Kentucky has 11th week of declining COVID-19 cases

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear gave an update on COVID-19 in the state Monday, reporting 310 new cases.

While the CDC recently released a warning saying that COVID-19 cases are back on the rise in most states, Kentucky continues to show a decline, with the positivity rate at 2.89 percent, with an eleventh week now of fewer cases than the week before.  Governor Beshear says it’s more important than ever that vaccine rollout happens as fast as possible, to beat the coronavirus variants that are out there.

Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says they have found during testing that there are variants of the virus is present in the Commonwealth, and the vaccines are proven to be effective against them.

There are currently 41 new cases of one of the variants in the state, including one confirmed case in Christian County.  Approximately 1.3 million Kentuckians have now received at least the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Eleven more Kentuckians have died due to COVID-19, bringing the death toll up to 6,042 since the pandemic began.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported 1,288 new cases there, along with 14 new deaths—the positivity rate in the Volunteer State is at 7.15 percent.
