Kentucky State Police have made an arrest in connection with the murder of a Murray State University student whose body was found Friday morning in Calloway County.
The victim has been identified as 21-year old Sarah Townsend, a Murray State student who was originally from Farmville, Virginia.
KSP says Murray State Campus Police were asked to conduct a welfare check on Townsend after she failed to report to work Friday afternoon.
When she wasn’t located, police were able to identify Townsend as the body found earlier in the morning on Fox Road near McCuiston Drive.
An autopsy determined Townsend died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a news release.
It was also determined her Toyota Camry was stolen and traffic cameras in central Georgia observed the vehicle there. Further investigation identified 22-year old Julius Sotomayor of Dexter as a suspect and police found that he had returned home with the stolen vehicle early Saturday morning.
He was arrested about 4 a.m. and charged with murder, felony auto theft and tampering with evidence.
