The Storm Prediction Center continues to include Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee under an enhanced risk for severe weather Thursday.
Christian County native Rick Shanklin is the warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Paducah and says a first round of storms Thursday morning could have some large hail, but isn’t the main event for potential severe weather.
Severe weather will be most likely during the afternoon and evening hours, when hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes will be possible.
Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes will be more likely the farther south you go and Shanklin says the region could avoid a severe weather outbreak if enough instability doesn’t develop.
