Proceedings continued in fatal hit-and-run case

Proceedings were continued Wednesday in Christian Circuit Court for Alan Barnett, the man charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed Jared Yoder in August, as negotiations about a possible resolution continue.

Defense attorney James Greene requested the continuance, saying they continue to work with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office to possibly resolve the case and need more time to go over offers.  Circuit Judge Andrew Self set another pretrial hearing for April 14, saying if it’s not resolved at that time they will set it for trial.

Barnett is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a death or serious injury after he allegedly had been headed north in the 13000 block of Madisonville Road about 5:40 a.m. on August 19 and struck a bicycle ridden by the 20-year old Yoder.

Yoder was pronounced dead at the scene and Barnett reportedly kept driving. He was arrested two days later at his home.
