Murray State & Austin Peay claim OVC weekly football honors

Murray State’s Eric Samuta has been named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Samuta returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown, recovered a fumble and recorded seven tackles in last Sunday’s win over Tennessee Tech. The Racers entertain Tennessee State this Sunday.

Austin Peay football won two of the OVC’s weekly honors. Quarterback Draylen Ellis was named the Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week. Ellis completed 23 passes for 262 yards and 6 TD’s in the Governors double overtime win last Sunday at Southeast Missouri.

Governor cornerback Elijah Culp was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Culp had six tackles and two interceptions in Sunday’s double overtime win over SEMO. Culp is also one of three OVC players with two interceptions in conference play this spring. Austin Peay welcomes UT Martin this Sunday.
