Trial had to be rescheduled Monday for one of two men accused in the 2016 murder of 19-year old De’Andre Palmer in Oak Grove.
Trial was scheduled to begin Monday for 23-year old Dequavion James, but the Kentucky Supreme Court has ordered no jury trials until after June 1 due to COVID protocols.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling confirmed to Judge John Atkins Monday that he wants to try James before Leonardo Miller.
Judge Atkins scheduled a two-week trial for James beginning June 28 and urged attorneys to work toward a potential resolution in the case.
Boling and defense attorney David Rye say they plan to get together for discussions of a possible resolution.
Arrest warrants for Miller and James allege they fatally shot Palmer in July of 2016. Police say they took cash and other items from Palmer’s pockets before putting his body in a closet. Palmer’s body was later moved from the residence and it was discovered a few days later by an Oak Grove police officer near Ghost Bridge on Carter Road.
