Bond revoked for fatal house fire, manslaughter suspect

Bond was revoked in Trigg Circuit Court Wednesday from the woman charged with manslaughter in a fatal house fire that killed her two children in April of 2020.

Keyona Bingham had previously had a warrant out for her arrest for failure to appear, but she appeared virtually before Judge C.A. Woody Woodall Wednesday with public defender Mary Rohrer.  Rohrer asked that the judge not revoke her bond, as Bingham is currently working full time and was working closely with pretrial services to abide by all her conditions of release. She says that despite those efforts, her client is going through a very hard time due to the death of her children, with Bingham herself saying she is trying her hardest to do better.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins argued that Bingham had not only tested positive for opiate use, so had a baby she had recently given birth to, and that paired with the seriousness of her original charges should result in revocation.

Judge Woodall agreed that the violation of conditions was a serious one, and revoked Bingham’s bond, telling her to turn herself in at the Christian County Jail by 5 p.m. Friday.

The next pretrial hearing in this case was set for May 12.  As previously reported, firefighters were called to a modular home at 194 Jefferson Street April 7 and located Bingham’s children, three-year old Kamari Harris and seven-month old Ky’nylee Harris during a search of the residence.

Both children were pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy determined they died as a result of smoke and other products of combustion inhalation.

Kentucky State Police allege Bingham had allegedly left her children at home unattended during the timeframe the fire began.
