Man arrested after allegedly stealing good Samaritan’s vehicle following crash on Cadiz road

A Franklin man was arrested on several charges after he crashed on Cadiz Road Monday night and then allegedly stole a good Samaritan’s vehicle and drove away.

An arrest citation for 45-year old Timothy Wharton says the passerby stopped to check on Wharton after he crashed in the 6100 block of Cadiz Road about 7:30 p.m.

While a female passenger was still in his vehicle, Wharton allegedly stole the good Samaritan’s automobile and drove toward Hopkinsville, with HPD finding him traveling at a high rate of speed on West Seventh Street.

Sgt. Rico Rodriguez activated his lights and siren, but Wharton didn’t stop and made several turns while disregarding red lights, according to the report.

He eventually pulled into a driveway in the 700 block of East Third Street and was taken into custody.

HPD and the Christian County Sheriff’s Department charged Wharton with felony auto theft, fleeing or evading police, DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without insurance and disorderly conduct.

Wharton’s passenger was taken by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
