The 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell bid farewell Major General Brian Winski and welcomed a new commander during a ceremony Friday.
Major General Winksi was the 47th Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division Air Assault and has served in numerous capacities over the years, calling Fort Campbell home for several years. He says he has been proud to be at this base and in this community, and it’s been the honor of his life to lead the division and the elite soldiers that serve this nation.
Command was handed over to Major General JP McGee, who says he’s aware of just how much honor and responsibility he has been given.
Speaking directly with the families and the soldiers he will be commanding, he says there’s nowhere else he would rather be, and he will work to do what is best for everyone.
Major General Winski faced an unheard of challenge during his time at Fort Campbell, leading the post and the division through the impacts and struggles caused by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
