With spring break on the horizon for Christian County Public Schools, the attention turns towards getting ready for the next school year and state assessments.
Speaking with WHOP News Tuesday, Superintendent Chris Bentzel gave a quick rundown of the COVID-19 numbers in the district, reporting zero active cases among staff, three in-person student active cases and only two in the Virtual Learning Academy.
The Kentucky Department of Education filed a petition with the U.S. Department of Education to waive required assessments this year, but that was denied, so CCPS is gearing up for what those assessments may look like and how to prepare students for them. Bentzel says they believe those assessments will be limited compared to prior years and will be used to measure learning loss due to the pandemic.
Bentzel says they were lucky that no school buildings were damaged by the recent flooding that hit Christian and Todd counties.
The school board will be presented with recommendations about graduation and proms at Thursday’s meeting, with Bentzel saying they hope to set graduation and the last day of school for May 21.
